Clients I Work With

I test/diagnose patients with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder to provide accurate cognitive profiles, diagnoses and treatment recommendations. I also provide therapy to those with neurodivergence who want to learn executive functioning and social skills while also learning how their neurodivergence may impact their mood and daily functioning. I adapt evidence-based protocols (e.g., CBT, DBT, ACT, MI) to become neurodivergent friendly and spend much time incorporating family members and also treating family members of a neurodivergent person to provide psychoeducation and guidance and help patients reduce masking and camouflaging. I also LOVE to work with patients going through the transition from high school to college. Developmentally this period of time is so vulnerable and I ensure patients have mood support, ADHD accommodations/skills, and coping skills for adjustment.

Approach

I make sure to be relatable in the room while addressing symptoms second, and the person first. We are more than our list of symptoms. I cherry pick skills from multiple different modalities and use my clincal judgement to decide when the patient needs to simply vent, when they need psychoeducation, or when a skill would have a large trickle down effect in day-to-day life. We work as a team, the patient as the driver, and me as the GPS helping them get to their goals. Patients have told me I am warm, I am always accessible directly by phone, and I am "real." I am not afraid to be direct if needed to hold a patient accountable, but it is always done carefully and without judgement.

Beliefs & Lived Experience

This work is deeply personal for me. I grew up with an older sister who has Rett Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that deeply shaped my understanding of how fragile and complex the brain can be. Watching her journey and the impact it had on my whole family ignited a lifelong curiosity in me. As a child, I asked endless questions about how the brain functioned, and that curiosity eventually became a calling. I fell in love with neuropsychology because it sits at the intersection of science and empathy: helping people make sense of what’s going on in their minds and giving them tools to navigate it. I use a true split between providing skills and relational therapy to help people feel better. I am quite science-minded, so while I follow the research most of my patients leave with a joke, a meme, a fun fact about Carly. I am ALWAYS a human first.

More About My Practice

I am the owner of Slate Psychology. I split my time doing therapy and neuropsychological and psychoeducational assessments for teens and adults. I truly think testing informs my therapy work and vice versa. I have a wonderful nurse practitioner who helps conduct medication management for my patients, as she is neurodivergent-minded. I also have a fabulous LCSW who sees our teenage patients ages 13-17 for therapy. It is a small group of women who all colloborate together to give our patients the best care, and it is lovely having colleagues. We are a boutique practice, so no one feels like a number. As the owner, I individually know every single patient personally.
