Clients I Work With

I work with adults, primarily women. These are people who have put so many others first, neglecting their own needs & self-care. Finally, she is ready to prioritize herself, and may even feel guilty for doing so. Clients may be in the sandwich generation, caring for elderly parents and dealing with caregiver fatigue and anticipatory grief. She could be experiencing issues with an adult child, including navigating estrangement. The client could be a high-functioning co-dependent. She is often an over-achiever. She may be exiting a relationship with a narcissistic/toxic partner, and rediscovering herself while learning how to parallel parent. She may have lost a spouse, parent, or child, and needs support in her grief journey. This client may need to address childhood trauma, and explore attachment wounds/styles. She wants to find her voice, and establish & maintain healthy boundaries.

Approach

I am a Holistic Mental Health Counselor. I believe in the mind-body connection, and the importance of taking a comprehensive approach to address the overall well-being of clients. Trained in a variety of therapeutic modalities, each client's respective treatment plan is uniquely tailored to support their goals. Given my own experience with Lyme disease, lipedema & peri-menopause, I understand the importance of being seen, heard and understood (SHU). Many clients, myself included, have experienced medical gaslighting. I am dedicated to creating a safe and supportive environment for clients to share, explore, heal, and grow. My clients, colleagues, & associates have described me as being compassionate, direct, caring, dedicated, thoughtful, skilled, supportive, empathetic, intuitive, knowledgeable, warm, friendly, understanding, non-judgmental, genuine, committed, & collaborative.

Beliefs & Lived Experience

I believe each person has a proverbial flame in the center of their chest, representing their intuition. In some cases, it may have been dimmed out of self-preservation. In others, a toxic partner or challenging boss may have snuffed it out. In working together, the goal is to reignite that light and have the client operating from a place of empowerment. In working with women in particular (many are mothers), there is a multiplier effect. The more grounded, secure, confident, happy & empowered she feels, the more likely she is to make decisions that are aligned with the life, career & future she wants for herself, and those close to her. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), a modality used to treat trauma, and I am a Certified Grief Counselor, and a Certified Holistic Health Counselor, trained in nutrition. I have been a SPIN (cycling) instructor since 2007.

More About My Practice

I offer complimentary consultations (via phone, telehealth or in person) so the potential client can get a feel for me, and I can assess if I am the right clinician for them. In some cases, I may refer out to a fellow vetted practitioner who specializes in a particular area and would be better suited to provide support. The ultimate goal is to ensure the client gets the care he/she needs, even if it is not with me. I also work with other professionals in adjacent fields, i.e. doctors, nurse practitioners, physical therapists, MLD therapists, acupuncturists, massage therapists, attorneys, naturopathic doctors, and others I have vetted and can refer clients to when they need additional support that falls outside of my scope. I am well-networked, and leverage my connections to benefit clients/potential clients. For more information, please visit https://linktr.ee/hilarystowers
