Clients I Work With
I'm a geeky/nerdy/anti-authoritarian with 20+ years of clinical social work with newly acquired psych nurse practitioner super powers in NJ, PA, and WA.
I really love to support people who have had a hard time:
--managing the impact of poor communication or therapeutic ruptures with previous providers, medical trauma, involuntary hospitalization or forced medication experiences
--being afraid of judgment for less-healthy coping strategies like self harm or substance use
--worrying about being dismissed because of weight or history/current sex work
--experiencing existential angst or lack of meaning/purpose
Scheduling new patient meet and greets and intakes within 1-2 weeks. Economic justice based fee schedule.
Ages 13+. My collaborating physician in NJ/PA is a board certified child/adolescent and adult psychMD, so I'm looking forward to adding services for pre-teens/children in the fall.
Approach
Smart people try to solve problems. And sometimes even in spite of our best intentions, those problems just stay stuck. What I've found over years of helping people getting out of the Swamp of Sadness or the Pit of Despair is not that we lack desire. It's that we, like TARDIS pilots, sometimes need a helping hand to get where in time and space we're trying to go. Helping people understand themselves and how to get out of our own ways is easier than containing a warp core breach or taking that darn ring to Mordor already. Whether you're having a hard time implementing habit routines that serve your best self, or struggling with the loneliness of being Data in a world full of human emotions, we will figure out concrete ways to help you feel and function better.
Beliefs & Lived Experience
I tend to be a good fit for people who tend toward geeky/nerdy side of things. This might look like anime, making your own Makerbot, or simply having strong opinions about the Oxford comma (thanks to fellow geek therapist Kate Reeves for this identifier). Myself, I tend toward knitting, putting blinky lights in clothes, and making plasma balls in the microwave. Also very much pro-Oxford comma.
Kink, poly, sex work/camming aware and supportive.
I am socially located as a middle-class, white, cisgender, queer woman with an invisible disability made visible by my use of a service dog to support me. Anti-racist work and environmental justice have been part of my life since I was a teenager.
