Telehealth Availability:

I'm usually available for teletherapy sessions by phone and video conference online almost every weekday. Group therapy sessions are online using Zoom. PLEASE NOTE: Contrary to what it says below, I am NOT licensed in most of the states listed at the bottom of this page. But I can still PRACTICE in these states with you through teletherapy because the states listed participate in PSYPACT legislation. I am credentialed with PSYPACT and licensed in Vermont and Ohio.

Clients I Work With

I've had the privilege of working with a wide variety of diverse adult clients--perhaps like you! I provide individual and group therapy (currently not couples or family therapy). Coming from both a generalist and specialist background, I'm able to work with many concerns that could include any of the following: PTSD and trauma (of many kinds) Queer / LGBTQ issues Racial/Ethnic concerns Depression and anxiety Grief, loss, transitions Relationship or family conflict Aging, chronic illness / pain / HIV/AIDS Sexuality, gender, body shame Sexual addiction / compulsion Academic stress and achievement Recovering from narcissistic abuse Interpersonal issues in group therapy Religious trauma, conflict and cult recovery Job stress, burnout, and finding "calling" Student, academic and career concerns Adverse experiences from prayer and meditation Racial discrimination / recovering from hate crime Climate change distress / political anxiety / social justice concerns.

Approach

I provide relationship-focused therapy with body-mind holism based on the best of theory, science and simple human connection. The best research tells us that it is the therapy relationship that heals! To say it more technically, our relationship (meeting you as a unique, distinctly different individual at many intersections of culture, attachment style, racial/ethnic differences, identity, sexuality or gender, personal history, family of origin background, age, life-stage, career development and so on) becomes the basis for helping you heal relationship ruptures of the past and the present--and your relationship WITH YOURSELF. Abuse, trauma, neglect, violence, abandonment, and shame-- all of these are relationship-based injuries. Consequently, I will prioritize building trust, safety, warmth, genuine connection and "gentle mending." It's as if you have a flashlight in the darkness and I must follow you very closely and faithfully, really being PRESENT, and always going at your own pace, not mine, wherever you choose to shine the light.

Beliefs & Lived Experience

I like Dan Seagal's term "Mwe." ME plus YOU equals the MWE of our therapy relationship. Through therapy you may develop as a healthier MWE with yourself and others through the dares and risk-taking of intimacy, which to me is what therapy is all about. Therapy is like a dress rehearsal for the relationship challenges of our lives. We practice in therapy to become a living and happy MWE with friends, family, community, coworkers and with ourselves. I have to practice this in my own life. If I didn't, I would not be able to join with you as a living, joyful and healing MWE in therapy. Once you develop or "internalize" the MWE of YOU and ME, then very naturally, organically there should be a ripple effect that spreads outwards into the varied issues of your life and relationships. It may not always be a QUICK fix but a DEEP fix. Yes, you CAN heal, you CAN shift attachment style, you CAN recover, you CAN change the quality of your relationships as the MWE of we in therapy joins the MWE in you with others.
