Clients I Work With
I work with academics, professionals, health care providers, therapists, military service members, spiritual seekers, or psychonauts, parents of troubled teens, people in various forms of relationship having a hard time. I work with folks suffering with anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, suicidality, or complex PTSD as a result of direct trauma (like childhood or adolescent abuses or military experiences) or vicarious trauma (like exposure to or responsibility for traumatized people).
I work with people who feel unchanged or worse after prior therapy or psychiatric treatment and feel like no one can help; people incapacitated or terminally ill wondering what really matters; people in recovery from addiction and wanting more out of sobriety; and adult children of alcoholics or personality disordered parents wanting to be free from the effects of neglect or abuse...
Approach
In sessions we focus on building trust, entering essential blocks and themes by way of present day patterns and challenges. We focus on letting go by getting to know what’s really happening rather than too quickly trying to get past or over it. This therapy considers the hardest things - those things which should never have happened - to be no less worthy of courageous and compassionate consideration than the strengths and successes. We don’t turn away here, and we also don’t push. We relax, safely, gently, confidently, and with careful timing, into what matters most.
Beliefs & Lived Experience
My work is shaped by a penchant for not turning away from difficult things, scenarios, people. The overused “hurt people hurt people” captures a commitment to work with all beings who feel a connection to this kind of seeking - meaning people who have hurt people as well as those who have been hurt by people — because, well, we are all both to some extent. I much enjoy working with other therapists/mental health providers as well as spiritual seekers - there seems to be a ready rapport and a skill in helping these heart-open folks remember what they already know and have lost touch with.
