Clients I Work With
Dr. Lanoff has notable experience supporting clients with complex and acute trauma (including sexual violence) and distress related to relationships.
Dr. Lanoff has worked in a variety of clinical settings including community mental health centers and university counseling settings. Throughout this training, she has learned and integrated multiple evidence-based approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), humanistic-existential, relational, trauma-focused, and feminist psychology. She believes that her clients have everything they need to heal within them, and that her role is to help people understand and overcome the obstacles that keep them from living their most joyful, fulfilling, and authentic life.
Approach
Dr. Lanoff earned her doctorate in psychology from Adler University, with an emphasis in traumatic stress psychology. Prior to her graduate studies, Dr. Lanoff received her Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in Psychology. Throughout her education, her coursework has focused on interventions and approaches for individuals who have experienced complex or acute trauma. Furthermore, Dr. Lanoff has conducted research on the topics of sexual assault and rape myth acceptance.
Beliefs & Lived Experience
“I believe the most important part of therapy is the genuine connection I form with my clients, and I will show up as my authentic self in therapy sessions with you. I prioritize providing validation and support, while also providing my own insight and gently challenging you during therapy. Together we will explore how your previous experiences may have shaped your current beliefs and ideas about yourself, the world, and others. I believe being vulnerable enough to confront and experience difficult emotions is one of the bravest things a person can do.
I am passionate about helping clients explore and celebrate their sexual orientation and gender identity. I am also committed to the lifelong journey of exploration and education in order to understand and address my internalized biases.”
