Clients I Work With
You love your child deeply, but parenting feels harder than you ever expected. Maybe you are exhausted by constant power struggles, worried about your child's anxiety, big emotions, or behavior, or wondering why the strategies that seem to work for other families just are not working in yours. You may be carrying the weight of adoption, foster care, trauma, having a neurodivergent child no one else understands, or your coming to terms with your own childhood experiences while trying to be the parent you want to be.
I work with parents who want things to feel different. You may know what is happening does not feel right, but not know how to shift it. Together, we will make sense of what brought you to therapy, maybe your child's unique nervous system, maybe your own experience of trauma as a child, while also strengthening your relationships, and building practical strategies that help your whole family feel more connected, confident, and supported.
Approach
I believe that every behavior makes sense when we understand the story behind it. Rather than focusing on fixing you or your child, we work together to understand what you need to feel safer, more connected, and more regulated.
Sessions with me are collaborative, compassionate, and practical. You will find a space where you can be honest about the parts of parenting that feel hard, without fear of judgment, and with a ton of understanding. Together, we will make sense of patterns, celebrate what is already working, and develop strategies that fit your family's unique needs instead of relying on one-size-fits-all advice.
My work draws from approaches such as Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy , Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy, EMDR, and Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE). While these approaches guide my work, our sessions are never about learning therapy jargon, and always about supporting you to better understand yourself, your child, and the relationship you are building together.
Beliefs & Lived Experience
I believe parents deserve the same compassion they so freely give their children. Too often, parents come to therapy carrying shame, self-doubt, or the belief that they are somehow failing. My goal is to create a space where you feel understood, supported, and empowered rather than judged.
As both a biological and adoptive parent through foster care, I know that every child experiences the world differently and that there is no one "right" way to parent. My own family has taught me that connection is built through curiosity, flexibility, and repair, never perfection.
I value authenticity, collaboration, and the belief that meaningful change happens in relationships. Whether we are celebrating progress or working through the hardest moments, I work to always meet you with warmth, honesty, and the confidence that growth is possible for both you and your child.
More About My Practice
I offer both in-person therapy in Portland, Oregon and telehealth appointments throughout Oregon.
In addition to weekly therapy, I offer Family Therapy Intensives, longer, more immersive sessions designed for families who want to make meaningful progress in a shorter period of time or families coming from out of State. In these intensives I work with Helene Hanson, a child therapist, to help families better understand their child's needs, strengthen relationships, and leave with practical strategies they can begin using right away.
Outside of my clinical practice, I provide consultation, training, and keynote presentations for educators, schools, and organizations on trauma-responsive care, attachment, neurodiversity, and supporting children's social-emotional development. I am the author of Trauma Responsive Strategies for Early Childhood, which can be found through my publisher Redleaf Press and online wherever books are sold.
