Clients I Work With
I work with children and adults struggling with anxiety, negative and unhelpful thought patterns, and avoidance. For children I work specifically with those having a hard time with school avoidance or school related anxiety. I have over 11 years of experience as community mental health specialist working primarily in schools. This gives me an inside perspective to school related concerns- especially for support with teachers. I also love working with adults to determine negative thinking that is holding them back while working to take a healthier outlook to improve their relationships and lived experiences.
Approach
I prefer to let clients lead sessions but am never afraid to ask a question. Sessions feel laid back and warm. I want my clients to feel relaxed and safe in sharing. My goal is to make sessions feel more like a chat with a friend than a clinical appointment. I love to challenge a thinking error and lead clients to do the same. I am never afraid to let us sit in the reality of a situation, but I always push for the acknowledgment that something is going well, no matter how small. I believe two things can be true at once! I primarily use CBT, DBT skills and MI in as my therapeutic lens.
Beliefs & Lived Experience
I have 11 years of experience as a school-based therapist in a community mental health setting. I have loved my time in schools, and it's given me the opportunity to see how it really works for everyone involved. I have learned how to support all ages and stages of life. I am now a mother to two young children. Postpartum anxiety, pregnancy loss, and the stress of being a working mother have all been topics for my own therapy sessions. But in other words- I feel it. In my opinion, therapy should not be serious the entire time, and there are benefits in every conversation. Therapy can be and is for everyone!
More About My Practice
I am currently offering online sessions on Mondays and Fridays.
If you are looking for clinical supervision to reach your independent social work licensure, please reach out! Helping new clinicians learn best practices (Especially with kids) is a joy of mine.
Coming Mondays this fall: Lunch & Learn Support & Recharge - a weekly group during the lunch hour for helpers and supporters to learn strategies to improve coping and boundary setting.
