Clients I Work With
I help young solo parents (widows/widowers) navigate their new normal. Losing your spouse was not in your plans, but life said otherwise. Not only do you grieve the loss of your spouse, but your whole world has shifted with secondary losses as well: parenting alone, reduction in finances, loss of friendships, an imbalance between work and home life, and more. Feelings of loneliness, anger, and numbness are all common and come in waves, unexpectedly; reminders that the loss of your loved one is real. When you get on a roller coaster ride, there are two seats per car. It would be an honor to buckle up next to you and see how we can work together, side by side, to explore and create a hopeful and meaningful future for you, Super Parent.
Approach
I absolutely love using metaphors to describe life's curveballs - expect at least one metaphor per session. In all seriousness though, my therapeutic approach is based on authenticity, curiosity, and experimentation with a splash of humor, when appropriate. Throughout my 13 years of clinical experience, I have used many techniques and strategies, based on client's needs. My go to techniques includes the following: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and narrative therapy. My hope is for you to leave the therapy room feeling heard, understood, and with a plan to put into action towards achieving your therapy goal.
Beliefs & Lived Experience
Some honorable badges (think Girl Scout sash) that I wear: young widow at age 38, mother of two kiddos, primary and only breadwinner, entrepreneur, taxi/bus driver (figuratively), school homeroom parent, and more. Losing my spouse was the biggest life test I ever experienced, and I questioned myself numerous times if I was even capable of such test. After all, there was no cheat sheet available, I just had to learn as the days carried on. I continue to experience the grief waves and carry a heart with a hole. But like the Grinch, my heart has learned through time, how to heal and grow in size with the existing hole present. I am a firm believer that there is life after death. My grief journey is one of a kind and I don't expect it to flow the same way for you. After all, you are your own unique individual, and I want to honor your strengths and capabilities too!
More About My Practice
D3 Therapy Services was born in November 2024. D3 is an ode to my late husband, a nickname he received from his friends. I offer a variety of ways an individual can receive therapeutic services. For those looking for the traditional route, in office sessions are available on Monday mornings in Dallas (zip code: 75208). Virtual therapy is available for individuals' seeking convenience with today's technology. Some unique services that are available include: walk-and-talk therapy and in-home therapy. I do require our initial session to be in office or virtual. Other than that, the client chooses how they would like their therapy for future sessions. Extended or intensive therapy is available upon request.
